RAICHUR: Deputy Commissioner Tushar Girinath seems to be under pressure while settling compensation for flood-affected families in Siatalab and Neerbhavikunta localities in the city. More than 1,000 families in low-lying areas of the Siatalab and Neerbhavikunta were affected when the district experienced heavy rain last week. Many families residing in these localities have constructed unauthorised huts obstructing the passage of drain water during the rainy season. However, the district administration has arranged to release compensation to the affected families after conducting a survey of the damaged huts in these localities.
Survey
It ordered the Raichur tahsildar to conduct a survey of the affected localities and submit a report to him. Accordingly, the tahsildar submitted a report after a survey and the Deputy Commissioner had asked him to announce the list of affected families and release ward-wise notification for calling any objections from the affected families. Compensation was released to about 1,200 families in Siatalab locality. However, the Deputy Commissioner refused to release compensation to some of the families affected in the same locality and also in Neerbhavikunta locality on the grounds that they constructed pucca houses which helped them safegaurd their belongings. However, Raichur MLA A. Papa Reddy has asked the Deputy Commissioner to release compensation to all affected families in Siatalab locality and 350 families in Neerbhavikunta locality. In his absence, the MLA sent his son and chairman of the Raichur Development Authority Pepsi Govinda to meet the Deputy Commissioner demanding release compensation to all affected families in both localities. However, the Deputy Commissioner refused to meet their demand and asked the tahsildar to conduct another survey to identify the loss of property of affected families.
`No disparity'
Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Girinath said he never showed disparity in releasing compensation to the affected families in Siatalab and Neerbhavikunta localities. He said he would consider the request of the MLA only after getting a report on the re-survey conducted by the tahsildar.
