IGNOU offers new course on environment

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University is now offering students a new course on environment. The Appreciation Course on Environment (ACE) has been developed by the university in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests as environment is increasingly becoming everybody's business.

The prospectus and application forms can be obtained from any of the IGNOU regional centres or the IGNOU Registrar at Maidan Garhi on payment of Rs.50 in cash.

Environmental competition

NEW DELHI: Henkel India has announced "Eco-petition -- Henkel Enviro Care Award" and rolled out a national level environmental competition, `Eco-petition', for children to voice their concerns about environmental issues.

The award and the competition have been launched under the company's environment and sustainability initiative called "Henkel Enviro-Learn". Eco-petition is a paper presentation competition on the theme `Eco-Concerns and Sustainability - My Action Plan for a Better Tomorrow' targeted at over 500 schools across five major cities including Delhi. It is open to students of Class X and XII. The participants will have to write a paper in about 2,500 words on environmental issues such as global warming, ozone layer depletion and waste management.

Assembly to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Legislative Assembly will celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 at the Old Secretariat lawns.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh besides other dignitaries, freedom fighters and senior officials will pay floral tributes at the ``Dandi March" statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
