DHARWAD: The Karnataka regional unit of All-India Association of Catholic Schools (AINACS-KRU) will organise a two-day convention of Catholic schools here from Sunday. Addressing presspersons on Friday, AINACS president Ann Teresa said the convention would deliberate on issues related to education based on Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) mandate "Education for the marginalized". Sister Ann said in the context of environmental degradation and global warming, a team from Taru Mitra of Patna would discuss the role of students in the protection of environment. Taru Mitra, a students' movement in environment protection initiated by St. Xavier's School, Patna, had spread to 200 schools in six States with 55,000 students as its members.
Team from UNESCO
The U.N. had granted Taru Mitra a special consultative status. A team from UNESCO would address the delegates on the rights of children. Nearly 150 delegates from 120 schools would participate in the convention to be inaugurated by Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka Cyriac Joseph at Sevalaya on Sunday. Archbishop Emeritus Ignatious Pinto would preside over the function, she said.
