Cane price for 2006-07 crushing season fixed

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced here on Friday that the management of the Puducherry Cooperative Sugar Mills at Lingareddipalayam near here would pay Rs. 1130 for a tonne of cane during the 2006-2007 crushing season.

A meeting of the tripartite committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister decided that the farmers be paid Rs. 50 more for a tonne of cane. The farmers were paid Rs. 1080 during the preceding year. A release from the office of the Chief Minister said on Saturday that 5500 farmers would be benefited by this arrangement. K.P.K. Arulmurugan MLA, Commissioner of Sugarcane R Sathiaseelan, Managing Director of the mill A Ramamoorthy and also officers of the Department of Agriculture and the sugar mill attended the meeting.
