Puducherry: The Government of Pondicherry has republished in the State Gazette the Central notification renaming with effect from October 1 the Union Territory of Pondicherry as Union Territory of Puducherry. A communication from the Chief Secretary to Administration Pradip Mehra said on Saturday that the Central Government had appointed October 1 as date on which provisions of the sub section (2) of Section l of the Pondicherry (Alteration of Name) Act 2006 would come into force. The Central notification was issued by Union Home Ministry on September 28.
