200 cases settled at passport adalat

KOZHIKODE : C.K. Damodaran, Passport Officer, Kozhikode has said the Passport Office here has issued 32,000 passports this month.

He was speaking at a passport adalat held at the office here on Saturday. The office would introduce a system to disburse passports within 35-40 days. The police had promised to complete police verification within 20 days.

The applications submitted up to June 30 which were pending with the office were taken up at the adalat. There were about 300 applicants.

Decisions to disburse passport immediately were taken in about 200 cases. Out of these 200 applicants, about 25 applicants were issued passports on the spot on Saturday itself.

The office here is witnessing a reduction of 30 per cent applications after the office at Malappuram was started. Talks were held with Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for taking up works of installing centralised air-conditioned facility at the Public Hall in the office. The office had already set up a drop box for dropping in any enquiries for the benefit of those who come seeking information.

The complaints dropped in the box would be addressed or a reply to the complainant would be sent in four days, Mr. Damodaran said.
