`Report vindicates CPI(M) stand'

Staff Reporter

District secretary says Antony Government committed an unpardonable act

  • Alleges that CPI(M) men were made accused from a list submitted by the Araya Samajam and the IUML
  • Says the report revealed the role of RSS in Marad riots

KOZHIKODE : CPI(M) district secretary T.P. Ramakrishnan has said the Marad Judicial Enquiry Commission report has vindicated the criticisms and concerns raised by the party on the May 2003 massacre and January 2002 riots in Marad.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Ramakrishnan said many allegations were raised against the party by various political parties after the Commission report was tabled in the Assembly.

He said the Antony Government had committed an "unpardonable act" as far as massacre and riots in Marad were concerned.

"It is clear from the Commission report that A.K.Antony Government which ruled the State from 2001-06 and UDF leadership were mainly responsible for the massacre and riots in Marad. The Commission has made it clear that improper handling of cases of the riots in Marad led to the massacre which occurred later," Mr.Ramakrishnan observed.

He alleged that CPI(M) men were made accused in the Marad riots from a list submitted by the Araya Samajam and the IUML. In fact, the Antony Government created the circumstances for Muslim terrorists to massacre persons in Marad, later.

He said the Congress leadership should answer the Commission's observation that the UDF Government had ignored intelligence report regarding possibility of violence in Marad. The political interference had become an impediment for the officials to carry out their duties, he alleged.

He said the report had made it clear that it was the NDF and IUML, which planned and implemented the massacre in Marad. "But people know how the Government led by Antony and Congress leadership tried to cover up the role of these organisations in the massacre," he said.

He said the Commission report clearly showed the role of RSS in the riots after the massacre.

The UDF Government was not ready to disburse compensation to those genuine cases in which houses of Muslims were destroyed after the massacre.

He said the Commission failed to praise the efforts of CPI(M) workers in quelling the riots and bringing in peace in Marad after the massacre.

He alleged that the IUML-BJP tie-up was responsible for the two incidents of violence in Marad. This tie-up dates back to the days of elections to the Beypore Assembly constituency in 1991, he alleged.

He said there was no reference to the CPI(M) in the report. He denied that the NDF workers had infiltrated into the CPI(M). C.P. Balan Vaidyar, control commission convener, and V.K.C. Mammad Koya, former MLA, were also present.
