Bangalore: Over 9.55 lakh students from rural areas of the State participated in the preliminary round of the Rural IT Quiz conducted by the Department of Information Technology in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on September 15 as a precursor to the forthcoming mega IT event, Bangalore IT.in 2006.

Anup K. Pujari, Principal Secretary, IT and Biotechnology, said that last year the number of students who participated in the quiz was only 65,000.

After the district rounds, 200 teams would be picked for the regional rounds from which six would participate in the final State-level quiz to be held on October 29 as part of Bangalore IT.in. The winner would win Rs. 80,000, he added.

TCS has published a quiz book in Kannada and English titled `IT - Think about IT,' which was released on Thursday. The book, authored by noted quizmaster Giri `Pickbrain' Balasubramaniam, has interesting questions and interactive puzzles that will stimulate the mind of the reader on aspects related to IT.
