Focus on creating AIDS awareness in Karur district

Various areas of the disctrict will be covered under the campaign

SPECIAL DRIVE: The Collector, T. N. Venkatesh, inside the special HIV/AIDS awareness campaign vehicle in Karur on Friday.

KARUR: Collector, T. N. Venkatesh flagged off a condom-shaped vehicle meant for creating awareness on HIV/AIDS in the district.

The district is said to be fast coming under the high-risk category as per some baseline surveys conducted recently.

The non-governmental organisation Gramium is coordinating the project along with VHS-USAID through their APAC project and other NGOs in the district.

Exhibits

Charts and exhibits in the vehicle caution the youth in particular against falling prey to the dreaded disease, highlighting the problems of managing AIDS/HIV. The vehicle would tour various areas the district before spreading the message in other districts. Mr. Venkatesh also chaired a district level planning committee meeting, as part of the district-level campaign. Senior district officials and representatives of NGOs including Gramium executive director P. Narayanan participated in the programme.
