Ashok to inaugurate celebrations

Madikeri: Health Minister R. Ashok will inaugurate the Vijayadashami celebrations at the Gandhi Maidan here on Monday, working president of the Madikeri Dasara Commitee Eshwar Kumar said here on Friday. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Kumar said district in-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda would preside over the function at 10 p.m. Mangalore MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Madikeri MLA K.G. Bopaiah, Somwarpet MLA B.A. Jivijaya, Virajpet MLA H.D. Basavaraj, MLCs C.S. Arun Machaiah and B.A. Hasanabba, and president of the zilla panchayat H.S. Ashok would participate in the function.

Prizes for the best-decorated cars would be given at 4 a.m. Minister for Tourism Sriramulu and former Minister Tanvir Sait would attend the function, he said.

Cultural programmes on Sunday and Monday would be held at the Ranga Mandira at the Gandhi maidan, Monty Ganesh, general secretary of the committee, said. Ayudha Puja would be held at 8.30 p.m. Sunday.
