Young World Quiz to begin on October 5

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The seventh edition of The Hindu-Young World Quiz 2006' will begin in Thiruvananthapuram on October 5. Actor Indrajith Sukumaran will be the chief guest at the function.

The quiz will be begin at the AKG Hall at 2 p.m. Students of Class X to XII from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kanyakumari districts will vie for honours in the first leg of the quiz. Each school can send three two-member teams. The last date for registration has been extended to October 3.

The programme in each centre will consist of a written preliminary round, in which all the registered teams can participate. The six teams clearing the preliminary round will vie for the top honours in each centre.

The winning team will take part in the all-India finals to be held in Madurai on November 14, Children's Day.

Eveready is the title sponsor of the event and Jamai ice-cream is the associate sponsor. Some of the other national sponsors are State Bank of Travancore, Garden City College and Vizag Steel.

Maaza is the official drink and SS Music is the TV sponsor. The event is managed by Quizwallahs.

The first prize winner will receive Rs 8,000 in cash. The prizes for the second and third positions are Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

Other prizes include deskjet printers of HP Invent Printers, gift hampers of Reynolds, books of Penguin, Encyclopaedia Britannica CDs, Reliance Hello browsing cards, gift hampers from Nutrifud Cakes, Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co., cameras from Babas Colour Lab, walkman from Quilon Radio Service, one-year free membership of British Library, two-nights and three-days stay at Club Mahindra Resort and entry tickets from Veegaland.

Eveready, Cycle Brand Agarbathi, Britannia Tiger and Maaza will also give prizes.
