Bahraich: In yet another blow to the BJP, sitting MLA from Bhinga assembly seat, Raja Chandramani Kant Singh, today announced his retirement from electoral politics and handed over the mantle to his wife, who joined the Samajwadi Party. Mr. Singh is a scion of Bhinga royal family and has represented Bhinga seat for six successive terms. Addressing a function in the presence of State PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, he announced that his wife, Maharani Subhashri Devi, would now work for the welfare of the people of the constituency as he was retiring from electoral politics. Subhasri Devi, a Zila Panchayat member, took membership of the Samajwadi Party at the same function. In his address, Mr. Yadav said Mr. Singh had lent support to SP when the party was fighting against the "corrupt" Mayawati government. Mr. Yadav said the Mulayam government has already sanctioned the construction of Bhanbhari Ghat bridge which would prove to be a milestone in the development of Bhinga and Shrawasti district. The bridge would come up at a cost of Rs 33 crores, he added. As per the earlier schedule, the foundation stone of Bhinga sports stadium had also to be laid today but it was postponed in view of the model code of conduct in force in the state for the coming local bodies' elections. -- PTI
