Funds sought for Bellary

Staff Correspondent

Several buildings of primary health centres and hospitals yet to be completed

BELLARY: The general body meeting of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat has urged the State Government to release funds for the ongoing projects under the Rs. 3,300-crore special package for the development of Bellary district announced by the S.M. Krishna Government in 1999.

The meeting also decided to take a delegation to meet B.S. Yediyurappa, Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio and urge him to release funds to complete the projects.

The meeting was informed that several buildings, including primary health centres and hospitals, taken up under the special package, were yet to be completed mainly owing to lack of funds.

K.S.L. Swamy, MLC, said he had met M.P. Prakash, when the latter was Deputy Chief Minister, and Mr. Yediyurappa and other Ministers concerned urging them to release the funds required for the ongoing works.

C.M. Shirol, Chief Executive Officer, said a list of all pending works taken up by various departments had been prepared and would be forwarded to the Government requesting it to release funds. The functioning of the Karnataka Land Army Corporation came in for criticism from members.

The members said it failed to stick to schedule despite the fact that payments were made in advance.

The discussion came to an end when an official of the Land Army promised to expedite works taken up.
