NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Friday registered the Makkal Desiya Jananayaka Katchi (MDJK), a political party floated by the Thamizhnadu Brahmin Association (TAMBRAS). The party had filed an application before the Commission in March this year, seeking registration, to enable it to contest elections. In its communication to party president N. Narayanan, the Commission said after perusing the documents, it had registered the MDJK under Section 29 A of the Representation of the People Act with effect from September 29. The registration would not entitle the party to reservation of any exclusive symbol. Candidates put up by the party would be entitled to benefits of preference over Independent candidates (in allotment of symbols) under paragraph 12 of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.
Party's goals
Mr. Narayanan said the outfit would work for the uplift of people, cutting across religion, caste, creed, language or region. It would fight for reforms in all walks of life. It would demand transparent public administration and people oriented policies with revolutionary ideas. The party would work with special emphasis on the welfare of Dalits in respect of their social status, educational opportunities, employment and economic prosperity.
