Winning team will participate in the national finals at Madurai

KOCHI: The regional round of

The Hindu-Young World Quiz 2006 will be held at Toc-H Public School auditorium, Vytilla, Kochi, on Saturday. Cricketer S. Sreesanth will be the chief guest. Ernakulam Range DIG K. Padmakumar will be the special invitee.

The quiz will begin at 2 p.m. Registration starts at 1 p.m. This is the seventh edition of the programme, covering Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Idukki and Alappuzha districts.

Students from Classes X to XII can participate in the programme. Each school can send a maximum of three teams, each comprising two members. The programme will consist of a written preliminary round, from which six teams will be selected. They will vie for the top slot. The winning team will be invited to participate in the national finals to be held at Madurai on November 14, Children's Day.

A letter announcing the Kochi regional round has been sent to schools in the five districts.

Schools which are yet to receive it can register up to Thursday.

The regional rounds are being held in 13 centres, with the Union Territory of Puducherry being the newest addition. Prizes will be given in cash and kind. The event will be managed by the Quizwallahs.

A lot of goodies await the students. Eveready is the title sponsor this time and Jamai ice cream the associate sponsor. Following are the national sponsors - State Bank of Travancore, Tiger biscuits, HP, Reliance, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Vizag Steel, Reynolds, Penguin and GCC. The official drink is Maaza and the TV sponsor is SS Music.

The regional sponsors are Veegaland, Nutrifud Cakes, Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co., Mahindra Holidays and Samsung India Electronics.
