TIRUMALA: Splendour marked the `Rathotsavam' festival at the Hill temple of Lord Venkateswara on Monday, the penultimate day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam. The processional deities of Lord Malayappa Swamy flanked by his two consorts mounted atop the mammoth wooden chariot was dragged along the mada streets encircling the holy shrine amidst religious fervour. Tens of thousands of devotees witnessed the divine procession. However, the procession was marred by some rude behaviour of the police with the devotees and the media. Some women entered into heated arguments with the police. A reporter of a Telugu daily was also roughed up by the police constables. The incident was brought to the notice of the Superintendent of Police V. V. Gopalkrishna who promised to take suitable action against the erring personnel.
