Hijack threat: airport security tightened
Varanasi:
Security at the Lal Bahadur Shastri airport here has been tightened in the wake of the Lashkar-e-Taiba's alleged plans to hijack a Nepal-bound aircraft, a senior CISF official said on Monday.
The Central Industrial Security Force manning the airport had been put on maximum alert and a quick reaction team deployed, CISF commandant Rohitashva Kumar told PTI here.
Similar security measures were taken at the New Delhi and Kolkata airports also.
Multilayered security was put in place at the airport here with CISF personnel manning many installations.
"Passengers travelling by Indian and Cosmic Airways flights to Nepal and those returning by these carriers are being put through extensive checking," Mr. Kumar said. PTI
