Gandhi Jayanti celebrated

HASSAN: The district administration celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner in-charge F.R. Jamaadar recalled the contribution of Gandhiji in liberating the country from colonial rulers. Following Gandhi's ideology of "ahimsa" was the only answer to facing the problem of terrorism.

While Marshal Pinto read out some parts of the Bible, Moulvi Abdul Sab the Quran and Kumari Sangeetha recited a few slokas from the Bhagavad Gita.

Shivanna, a freedom fighter, narrated how Gandhiji had prepared the society for a non-violent struggle against the colonial rulers.

The District Congress Committee also observed Gandhi Jayanthi.

The former Minister for Information B. Shivaram recalled the contributions made by Mahatma Gandhi in addressing the problems faced by the people owing to discrimination.
