Siddegowda joins Janata Dal (S)

Staff Correspondent

Siddaramaiah's entry into Congress made him decide so

  • JD (S) candidate for bypoll to be decided by senior leaders
  • `I am ready to contest in Chamundeshwari

MYSORE: Leading politician from Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in Mysore Mavinahalli Siddegowda, who had quit the Congress, joined the Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Kumaraswamy said Mr. Siddegowda was joining the Janata Dal (S) unconditionally.

    Party's choice

When asked whether Mr. Siddegowda would be the Janata Dal (S) nominee for the impending bypolls to the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the party's choice for the byelections would be decided by senior leaders of the party.

Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda, Rajya Sabha MP Rajashekar Murthy and Home Minister M.P. Prakash would finalise the party's choice for the bypolls, he added.

    Unconditional

Mr. Siddegowda said he was joining the Janata Dal (S) unconditionally under the leadership of Mr. Kumaraswamy.

Mr. Siddegowda has cited the entry of former Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Siddaramaiah into the Congress fold as the reason for his decision to quit that party and join the Janata Dal (S).

Mr. Siddegowda said he was disheartened by the rousing welcome the Congress accorded Mr. Siddaramaiah, who had berated the Congress party for decades.

"I am ready to enter the fray for Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency as the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate against Mr. Siddaramaiah, who will be the Congress candidate", Mr. Siddegowda said.

    Bypoll

However, it remains to be seen whether the Janata Dal (S) will field Mr. Siddegowda, a Vokkaliga, or nominate former MLA A.S. Guruswamy as its candidate for the bypolls to the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency.

The battle of ballots in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency is expected to be a battle of prestige between Mr. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Siddaramaiah.
