TAMBARAM : The Chennai region of Co-optex has set a target of Rs.5.26 crore as sales of its textile products for the Deepavali season. This is part of the Rs.16-crore annual target it has set for 2006-2007. This was stated by Co-optex officials at the commencement of the first sale for Deepavali season at the showroom on Shanmugham Road in West Tambaram on Friday. The target set for Deepavali sale is higher than that last year (Rs. 4.4 crore). In 2005-06, Co-optex made a total sale of Rs. 16.5 crore through its 17 showrooms in Chennai. The festival sale at Tambaram was inaugurated by B. Malathi, principal, SSV Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Pammal. The officials said Co-optex had pioneered in making interest-free credit sales to employees of government, public sector undertakings, schools and colleges and introduced sale of silk saris and cotton varieties under monthly savings scheme. It was also planned to introduce wrinkle-free suitings and shirtings during the festival season. They said as there was a good response to low-cost handloom saris, they had procured saris from Coimbatore, Salem and Vellore at reasonable prices, in assorted colours and attractive designs in the price range between Rs. 250 and Rs. 550 apiece. Pure silk saris were procured from Kancheepuram and Arni, half-fine silk saris from Coimbatore and Salem, cotton saris from Sirmugai, Paramakudi, Thoppur, Jankondam, Tiruchi and Sholinghur and bedsheets from Chenniamalai and Kallidaikurichi.
