HYDERABAD: The Ranga Reddy district police on Monday arrested three persons on the charge of assaulting a woman, accusing her of practising sorcery, in SC Colony, Parigi, on Sunday afternoon. The accused persons Chandraiah, Venkataiah and Ramulamma forcibly picked up the victim R. Pentamma, 50, from her house and tied her to an electric police with her saree. They charged her with practising witchcraft following which one Laxmamma died five days ago. Chandraiah and his relatives inflicted severe head injuries to Pentamma. They later poured kerosene on her and tried to set her afire. The police, who rushed to the spot after being alerted by some villagers, rescued the woman and shifted her to Government hospital in Mahabubnagar district where her condition is stable. Ranga Reddy Superintendent of Police E. Damodar said property dispute between the two families led to the attack on Pentamma. Based on the victim's statement, the police registered an attempt-to-murder case.
