Tributes paid

to Gandhi

TIRUCHI: The Collector, Ashish Vachhani, paid floral tributes to the Mahatma at the Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha Memorial Sthoopi here on Monday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. He also paid floral tributes at the Rajan bungalow here where Gandhi stayed on September 17, 1927. The Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha Awareness Movement, district president, A. Jacob, district Seva Dal, organiser, K. Subramanian and others participated, a press release issued here said.

Clerical category result tomorrow

The result of clerical category candidates who appeared for the written examination conducted on August 27 at the Army Recruiting Office here will be announced at 10 a.m. on October 4 (Wednesday). All candidates are advised to report at the Army Recruiting Office here on the above-mentioned date and time, a press release from the Army Recruiting Office here said.

Three killed

in accidents

Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in the district on Monday. According to police sources, Mani and Baskar were proceeding on a two-wheeler on the Tiruchi- Karur national highway when a Tiruchi-bound Government bus from Coimbatore collided head-on with the motorcycle at Kavalkaranpalayam. In the mishap, Mani and Baskar were killed on the spot. The Jeeyapuram police have registered a case.

In another incident, Shamshuddin (60) was killed and two others sustained injuries in a car-lorry collision on the Tiruchi - Dindigul national highway at Maravanur bridge.The police said Shamshuddin along with Mohammed Ismail and Mohammed Meeran was travelling in a car to Tiruchi from Manapparai when a Dindigul-bound lorry from Tiruchi collided head-on with the vehicle. Shamshuddin died in a private hospital here. The Manapparai police have registered a case.

No water supply

Drinking water supply will remain suspended in the following areas on Tuesday due to a leakage in the distribution mains near the Anna statue near Chinthamani: Melachinthamani, Keezhachinthamani, Devadhanam, Sanjeevi Nagar, Moovendar Nagar and Sankaran Pillai Road. Supply will resume on October 4, according to Corporation authorities.

Mettur level

The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 101.14 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Monday with an inflow of 11,702 cusecs and a discharge of 8,000 cusecs. — Staff Reporter
