NGOs to carry out medical examination of each student as per the health card

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday launched the Delhi State Health Mission to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at a function at Maulana Azad Medical College here. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit hoped the Mission would not only give a thrust to basic health care but also lay equal emphasis on aspects of preventive health and hygiene.

The Chief Minister said the Mission was being launched to bridge the gap in health care delivery, ensure an affordable and accountable primary health care service and effectively handle the increased allocation of funds for public health.

The Health Mission is an outcome of the concept and plan of the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM). However, some amendments have been made in view of a number of unique features of Delhi, its health system, infrastructure, demand and urban character.
