Puducherry: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S.Ramadoss on Tuesday urged political parties to refrain from seeking political mileage by encouraging strikes in hospitals. Addressing a press conference here, he said a strike in government or private hospitals should not be resorted to as an immediate mode of agitation as it would have serious implications on patients. Reiterating that the Centre's decision to grant autonomy for JIPMER was right, he said it would improve the quality of medical service and result in enhanced allocation and expansion of facilities for medical service and research. Patients from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu would benefit. Dr. Ramadoss said the Union Territory had a population of around 8 lakh and eight privately run medical colleges had come up. The private players, worried over JIPMER's popularity, were inciting political parties to agitate. Dr. Ramadoss said he had highlighted the lack of initiative on the part of Puducherry Administration to nip agitations in the bud.
