ORR project oustees plan road blockade

Leaders of eight Left parties to lead the protest on October 12


  • To block all National Highways passing through twin cities
  • Oustees seek a fair compensation and rehabilitation package

    HYDERABAD: Families displaced by the proposed Outer Ring Road (ORR) project have decided to organise blockade of all the National Highways passing through the twin cities on October 12 seeking a fair compensation and rehabilitation package.

    CPI State Secretary K. Narayana told reporters on Tuesday that oustees of the ORR project and activists of eight Left parties would stage rasta-roko on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Hyderabad-Mumbai, Hyderabad-Srisailam and Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highways from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on October 12. Mr. Narayana along with a delegation of Left parties visited the HUDA Colony near Shamshabad mandal headquarters about 20 km from here on Tuesday, where a few houses were demolished to pave the way for laying the 8-lane road. The delegation comprised representatives of the CPI, CPI(M), MCPI(U), SUCI and the CPI(ML-New Democracy). Protesting against the demolition, angry residents damaged a Poclain. Locals complained that more than 250 houses would be demolished if the ORR project passes through the colony.
