WITH PERSEVERANCE: Women from Savalasanga village observing fast at Horthi in Gulbarga on Tuesday.
BIJAPUR: The Bijapur Zilla Kere Neeru Thumbuva Yojane Horata Samiti has called for a city bandh on Friday in support of its demand for commissioning the project for filling up 97 minor irrigation tanks by pumping water from the Krishna and the Bhima immediately. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday. It comes on the eve of a high-level meeting to be convened by Water Resources Minister, K.S. Eshwarappa on Saturday to discuss the pros and cons of the project. The proposed meeting by the Minister dominated the samiti meeting held at Hanumantharaya Rangamandir. Samiti leaders Annappa Kainur, Basavaraj Kumbar and Mahantesh Biradar sought views from farmers and office bearers of different organisations on the future course of action in case the Minister failed to respond positively to their demand. The indefinite fast launched at Horthi hobli in Indi taluk entered the 24th day on Tuesday. Over 70 women hailing from Savalasanga village observed fast.
