Dhanesh, Jibin star in SHC's win

ALUVA: Dhanesh and Jibin helped Sacred Heart College (Thevara) down CUSAT 48-38 and enter the men's semifinals of the 36th UC College all-Kerala basketball tournament at the C.P. Andrews Stadium here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a strong surge in the last quarter helped St. Albert's College beat host Union Christian College 57-37 and enter the last eight.

Earlier, Kerala Basketball Association's Referees Commission Chairman Dr. Fr. Philip Vadekkekulam inaugurated the three-day tournament.

The results: Quarterfinal: Sacred Heart 48 (Dhanesh 17, Jibin 13) bt CUSAT 38 (Praven Paul 11, Raman 8). Pre-quarterfinals: St. Albert's, Ernakulam 57 (Ebin 20, Vishnu 17) bt UCC, Aluva 37 (Manu Augustine 10, R. Renju 9).

Aswin, Manu sizzle

South Zone leggie Aswin Sharma and Central quickie Manu Dev shared the second day's honours with five wickets each in the Kerala State under-15 inter-zone cricket championship at tKalamassery, on Tuesday.

Resuming at 63 for four, Central conceded a 38-run first innings lead but made some gains after that. South finished the penultimate day at 105 for seven with Central captain Manu Dev being the chief wrecker.

The scores: South 188 & 105 for seven in 41 overs (Navaneeth Jose 27, Manu Dev five for 18) v Central 150 in 72.3 overs (C.A. Mathew 39, Aswin Sharma five for 30, Midhun three for 32).

Cricket trials

Trials to select the Ernakulam district senior cricket team will be held at the Palace Oval, Tripunithura, at 4 p.m. on Oct. 5.
