VIZIANAGARAM: The municipal council at its meeting on Tuesday approved a proposal put before it by K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, that sanitation be handed over to voluntary organisations. Mr. Swamy, who is running Sai Foundation, a voluntary organisation, suggested that keeping in view the poor sanitary condition in the town, it would be better to ask voluntary bodies to handle sanitation in each ward. When he sought the opinion of councillors, they approved his proposal. The MLA regretted that though the municipality had been collecting taxes from residents on the outskirts, the colonies there lacked amenities.
