CHITTOOR: District Collector S.S. Rawat has expressed unhappiness over the functioning of 10 mandal parishad development officers (MPDOs) who were lagging behind in the implementation of all activities and warned of action against them if they did not improve their performance by month-end. A review meeting with the MPDOs on SC/ ST, BC minority corporations, Rajiv Yuvashakti, APREGS and PMRY was held here on Tuesday. The chief executive officer has been directed to take action against the 10 MPDOs who failed to achieve the targets in spite of repeated persuasion. A sum of Rs.30.20 crores had been allocated for the works taken up under rural employment guarantee scheme, of which 6.50 crores were allocated for construction of houses to the poor. The Collector has instructed the officers not to use machinery in the execution of works as the programme is intended to provide employment for the rural unskilled labourers. If the administration notices any officer using the machinery on the works under APREGS, they will be dismissed immediately without giving any notice, the Collector warned.
