NEW DELHI: Indian Army defeated Karnataka 96-64 in the all-India Master Prithvi Nath Sharma memorial basketball tournament here. Jairam Jat (27), Dalip Kumar (17) and Phool Singh (15) excelled for Indian Army, while Shrinivas Gowda (18), Roshan (15) and Rony Zacharia (12) did well for Karnataka. In another match, North Western Railway defeated Prithvi Nath Club 115-100. Pooran Singh (38) and Rajesh Yadav (28) were the main scorers for NWR.
Delhi reigns supreme
Delhi won the men's and women's titles at the North Zone inter-state badminton championships held in Jammu. In the men's final, Delhi defeated Haryana 3-1 while the women beat Haryana 2-1. In the juniors' section, Delhi defeated Haryana 2-0 in the girls' final while the boys' team lost to Haryana 2-0.
Narrow win for IA
Indian Airlines edged ONGC 3-2 in the 17th Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament in New Delhi on Tuesday. Sameer Dad (2) and Dhanraj Pillay scored for IA while Amarjeet Pratap netted ONGC's goals. In another match, BPCL overcame BSF 3-1. Amar Aiyamma (2) and Pundalik scored for BPCL while Marinus Lakra reduced the margin. Indian Oil and Namdhari XI were locked in a 2-2 draw. Indian Oil led twice through Bikramjit Singh but Namdhari XI equalised with Gurpreet Singh and Gurcharan Singh scoring once each. Air-India came back from a 1-3 deficit to overcome Punjab National Bank 4-3. Len Aiyappa, Gaurav Tokhi, Joga Singh and Girish Pimple scored for A-I while PNB scored through Jitender (2) and Prem Kumar.
