B. Muralidhar Reddy
COLOMBO: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on Tuesday agreed to hold `unconditional talks' with the Sri Lanka Government.
Special envoy apprised
The decision to resume the dialogue was conveyed to the Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer by LTTE political head S.P. Thamilchelvan in Kilinochchi in the course of two-hour-long talks. "Yes we have agreed for unconditional talks because there are no conditions from the Sri Lanka Government side as well. Though it is not a condition, in the course of discussions with the Norwegian envoy we have raised the subject of the continuing unprovoked offensive by the Sri Lanka military and sought immediate halt to all military operations," Daya Master of the LTTE Media Secretariat told The Hindu over phone from Kilinochchi. Mr. Bauer is here to persuade the Government and the LTTE to resume peace talks in the wake of the September 12 Co-Chairs Brussels declaration. Indications are that talks will be held in the last week of October, probably in Oslo. A clear picture on the date and venue is expected after Mr. Bauer briefs the Sri Lanka Government on the outcome of his visit to the LTTE administrative headquarters.
