`Govt. insensitive to Kaman tragedy'

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly protested against non-inclusion of the victims of the Kaman water tank tragedy in the condolence message read out by Speaker Sumitra Singh on the opening day of the monsoon session of the House on Tuesday. The members accused the Government of being insensitive to the tragedy, which claimed 46 lives in Bharatpur town a month ago.

The Speaker's list had 21 persons who passed away since the House met last time, and also the victims of the recent rain-havoc in western Rajasthan and other areas but it missed out on Kaman.

As soon as the Speaker completed her condolence speech, the Chief Whip of the Congress, Zuber Khan, rose to point out that the House should have had enough sensitivity to at least mention the Kaman tragedy in the condolence message. He was supported by his party's Ramnarain Meena, Mohammed Mahir Azad and Brajkishore Sharma.

Ms. Singh said the omission was not intentional and it had come to her notice that at least two political leaders who had passed away in the recent past too could not be included. The suggestions in this regard would be accommodated, she said.
