GIVING LIFE TO THOUGHTS: Children taking part in the drawing competion at the Mahatma Gandhi Park in Shimoga on Tuesday.
SHIMOGA: Over 50 children took part in the on-the-spot drawing competitions conducted by the Wildlife Division of the Forest Department at the Mahatma Gandhi Park here on Tuesday as part of the 52nd Wildlife Week which began on Sunday.
Separate contests
Separate competitions were held on "Wild animals and their environs" for children studying in pre-primary schools (LKG and UKG sections), primary schools (first standard to 4th standard), higher primary schools (5th to 7th standards) and secondary schools (from 8th to 10th standards). While drawing sheets were provided by the organisers, colours and other materials were brought by the children. Prizes will be given to winners on the concluding day of the Wildlife Week on October 7. Assistant Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Chandrasekhar, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Sagar sub-division) Ravikumar, Regional Conservator of Forests Sudarshan, the veterinary doctor attached to the Wildlife Division of the Forest Department Kallappa and president of the District State Government Employees' Association Raghuram Devadiga were present. Essay competitions for high school and college students were also held on Tuesday at the Kamala Nehru College here.
Other contests
The other competitions to be held as part of the Wildlife Week are: skit for students of higher primary schools, high schools and the colleges to be held at the Kamala Nehru College on Wednesday; elocution for boys and girls of secondary schools and colleges to be held at the Vasavi School here on Thursday; and quiz for boys and girls of secondary schools on Thursday at the DVS Independent College here.
Fancy dress
A fancy dress on wildlife for pre-primary and primary schoolchildren will be held on Friday at the Ambedkar Bhavan here.
