NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has sought an explanation from the Secretary of the Rajghat Samadhi Committee here on a public interest litigation accusing him of indulging in corrupt practices and holding two posts and enjoying the benefits thereof.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir directed
The petitioners also sought an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the allegations but the Bench refused to issue a notice to the investigating agency.
Due to the virtual non-functioning of the Committee, the Secretary was functioning both as Secretary and Caretaker.
The maintenance and upkeep of the Samadhi was the responsibility of the Horticulture, Civil and Electrical Division of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) but the Secretary preferred engaging private contractors for getting minor works done at the Samadhi, the petitioners said.
The petitioners submitted that they had made a number of representations to the Union Government and the Committee Chairman but no action has been taken. Therefore, they had moved the High Court.
The petitioners urged the Court to direct the Secretary to explain under what authority he was holding the two posts.
