CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran said on Tuesday that the Government would take all precautionary measures to prevent dengue in the State. Passengers from Delhi and North India who had symptoms of dengue would be screened by medical personnel at airports, railway stations and bus terminals, he said, adding that necessary treatment would be given to them.
3-pronged strategy
The Government had already launched a three-pronged strategy to tackle chikungunya. Providing 24 hour-treatment at all the Government hospitals and primary health centres, involving 35,000 personnel of the Health Department to eradicate the larvae of the mosquito spreading the disease and rushing medical teams to areas where a large number of people were affected by the disease were part of the strategy, he said. Adequate stocks of medicine had been kept in the hospitals and primary health centres, Mr. Ramachandran said adding that the field work carried out by the Health Department personnel was constantly monitored by the Secretary (Health) and Director of Health in the districts. Village level health camps were being conducted in the State at a total cost of Rs.12 crore since last week to provide treatment to chikungunya and other diseases, besides giving maternity care to women in the rural areas, he said.
