HYDERABAD: The magnificent Swarnandhra Pradesh Sports Complex (Gachibowli) will soon have a full-fledged three-star Games Village which is coming up primarily for the 2007 World Military Games. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation on Tuesday for the Rs.40-crore project which includes a seven-storeyed complex to accommodate 2,000 athletes. Dr. Reddy remarked that lack of accommodation was believed to be a major hindrance for hosting any big event and this facility should take care of every aspect on this front. "This also reflects the commitment of the Government towards sports," he asserted in his brief speech. Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) has promised the Government that the complex would be ready within nine months, well before the World Military Games are to begin. Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju said that the whole concept should give a platform for the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh to look for bigger events. Vice Chief of Army Gen S. Pattabhiraman, Andhra Sub-Area Commander D.S.C.Varma, Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana were among those present.
