KOCHI: Abdul Rahman alias `Bechu' Rahman, fourth accused in the case relating to the attack on the former Sabarimala tantri Kandararu Mohanararu, surrendered before the investigating officer here on Tuesday.

His bail application was later dismissed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate II and was remanded in police custody till October 12.

Before the surrender, Rahman told mediapersons at the Ernakulam Town Central police station that the incident at Link Lakshman apartments at Valanjambalam was stage-managed by the tantri himself. His role was just in arranging people to execute it and later went into hiding according to instructions given by the tantri, Rahman said, adding that he was in Kasaragod for around 45 days and in Kochi for the last one week.

The accused was asked to surrender by the court when he moved his anticipatory bail application. `Bechu' Rahman is from Kanhangad in Kasaragod district.

Rahman appeared before G. Venu, Circle Inspector, Ernakulam Town Central, who is the investigating officer, by 10 a.m. and the arrest was recorded at 10.45 a.m.

The accused was later taken to the Police Club for interrogation.

The police had earlier arrested the main accused Sobha John and her two accomplices. At that time, the police said that Sobha John had the help of Rehman, who was involved in film and television serial productions.

The police case is that he arranged the five-member gang for attacking the tantri and extorting money from him after taking his pictures in compromising postures.

The three accused arrested earlier admitted to meeting Rahman at a city restaurant on July 22 where they plotted to attack the tantri after they got information that the latter would be visiting the apartments on July 23.
