BANGALORE: Angry residents set a private bus on fire after it knocked down an Excise personnel near Bagalur Cross on Bellary Road on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, Timmaraju (45), working as a guard in the State Excise Department office on K.G. Road, was coming from Chickballapur towards the city when the bus coming from Chickballapur knocked down the motorcycle he was riding. Timmaraju fell down and was killed on the spot. The driver of the bus escaped before people could assemble at the spot. Police said people became angry and asked passengers alight from the bus. Then they stoned the bus, broke its window panes and set it on fire. They blocked vehicular movement on the road for some time. Police came to the spot along with two fire tenders and put off the fire. The residents of the area expressed their unhappiness over the increase in the number of accidents on this stretch of the road. Maruthi, a resident, said: "The private buses going on this road are driven recklessly. Pedestrians and motorcyclists have become the victims of accidents. Despite repeated pleas, no steps have been taken by the authorities concerned the check the speed of vehicles on this stretch."
