NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday took a series of far-reaching decisions, granting approval for extension of Metro Rail Line II from Ambedkar Colony to Gurgaon, sanctioning much delayed restructuring of the State Public Works Department and handing over of Haj Manzil to the Delhi State Haj Committee. It also ordered a switchover to full-length school uniform for all school students across the Capital in the wake of the outbreak of the dengue disease. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also took stock of the situation in the wake of the rise in the number of dengue cases in the Capital and the deaths in various hospitals. It was felt that as a preventive measure all schools should be directed to ask their students to switch to winter code uniform almost a month in advance. Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the decision had been taken as a preventive measure as children in shorts and skirts were exposed to the danger of mosquito bites and the latest order would prevent such a situation. He said there was nothing to panic; this was just a precautionary measure. The school principals and headmasters would be responsible for ensuring cleanliness on the school premises, he added. Ms. Dikshit informed that Line II of Delhi Metro would now go up to Sushant Lok in Gurgaon.
