NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Nationalist Congress Party president and MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Tuesday demanded dissolution of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi "for its failure to prevent loss of precious lives due to the outbreak of the dengue disease". He also demanded an inquiry into the purchase of pesticides by the MCD and its failure to undertake spraying operations across the Capital. In a statement, Mr. Bidhuri said it was shocking that the MCD had adopted such a callous attitude and did nothing to prevent the disease till a hue and cry was raised on the issue. He said 11 people had lost lives due to dengue and nearly 1,000 had been admitted to various hospitals. "It is very unfortunate that the Congress-led MCD has been sleeping over the sanitation and hygiene situation in the city reflecting its abject failure to counter the situation that now threatens to go out of control,'' he said. The NCP leader said patients were pouring into hospitals and this was indicative of the fact that precious little had been done to check the spread of this disease.
