Clearing agent killed at Tughlakabad

NEW DELHI: A clearing agent was killed when a heavy machine fell on him at the Inland Container Depot in the Tughlakabad area of South Delhi on Tuesday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla, Harmeet Singh came under the machine when it was being downloaded from a container around 4-30 p.m. He succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to hospital.

Angered over the non-availability of an ambulance and first-aid facility, Harmeet's colleagues ransacked the ICD office. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed there had to use mild force to disperse the workers.

Man arrested for theft

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the North-West Delhi police for allegedly stealing Rs. 3.6 lakhs in cash and a colour television set from the house of his employer at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi this past week.

According to the police, accused Dalip Kumar, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, was arrested at the house of his relative at Anand Parbat in West Delhi on Monday. The police claim to have recovered the entire stolen amount and the TV set.

The police said Karam Singh, a resident of Kapurthala in Punjab, had come to Sultanpuri with Rs. 6 lakhs in cash to buy a property. He stayed in the house of his friend Darshan Singh. Dalip had seen where the cash was kept and on September 28 he along with his brother Pradeep decamped with the cash when nobody was present in the house.

Woman immolates self

New Delhi: A 33-year-old woman allegedly immolated herself by pouring kerosene on herself in Uttam Nagar area of West Delhi early on Tuesday.

Munni Devi locked herself in a kerosene depot, adjacent to her residence in Mohan Garden near Uttam Nagar, and set herself on fire after dousing self with the inflammable liquid, said sources.

Police were informed after neighbours noticed smoke coming out of the depot, the burnt body of the woman was recovered later.
