Kolkata: Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee sought on Wednesday the support of all political parties for the industrialisation and development of West Bengal. Care would be taken to ensure the least possible encroachment on agricultural land for setting up industries and infrastructure, he told an all-party meeting. The meeting was convened to discuss the State's plans to acquire land for new industries, particularly for the proposed automobile plant by Tata Motors at Singur in Hooghly district. The largest Opposition party, the Trinamool Congress, boycotted the meet as part of its protest against alleged forcible acquisition of farmland for the Singur project. It called for a state-wide bandh on October 9.
