serves strike notice

HYDERABAD: APSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation on Wednesday served strike notice to the management, according to M.N. Reddy, president, and R. Laxmaiah, general secretary. Weaver commits suicide

KURNOOL: A weaver identified as C. Venkateswarlu committed suicide by consuming acid at Kodumur in Kurnool district on Wednesday. Lack of employment and increasing debt were said to be the cause of the suicide. - Staff Reporter

Farmer ends life

Sangareddy: Unable to repay huge loans taken for his daughter's wedding and cultivation of his land farmer Pochaiahkadi Sayilu (50) committed suicide by hanging himself on Wednesday in Sadasivanagar under Kalpagur panchayat. - Staff Reporter

4 die in suicide pact

ANANTAPUR: A woman and her three daughters died in a suicide pact at Nesevandlapalli in Chilamattur mandal of Anantapur district on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Usharani (30), Gayatri (10), Gautami (8) and Gayatri (6). According to reports, the woman pushed the girls into the well before jumping in herself. - Staff Reporter

Land surveyed

ADILABAD: Adilabad MLA C. Ramchander Reddy, Collector R. Subba Rao and Revenue Divisional Officer P. Rajaram on Wednesday surveyed the open land behind the district headquarters hospital following a letter from the State Government. The Government had asked the district administration to propose a suitable site for establishment of the medical college in the district. - Staff Reporter

Two fishermen drowned

Sangareddy: Two fishermen -- K. Manaiah (60) and K. Ellaiah (35) -- of Kondapur village were drowned in Peddachervu on Wednesday. MLA Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy announced immediate assistance of Rs. 5,000 to the bereaved families of each fisherman. - Staff Reporter

WARANGAL: Revolutionary poets -- Kalyan Rao and Varavara Rao -- visited jailed Janashakti leader K. Rajanna at Central prison on Wednesday. Mr. Varavara Rao accused former SP of Warangal M.S. Ravindra of taking away books from the barracks of naxal leaders. - Staff Reporter

LAWCET qualifying mark reduced

VISAKHAPATNAM: The qualifying mark in LAWCET-2006 has been reduced from 42 to 30, for both three-year and five-year courses. Ranks have been awarded to the candidates who have secured marks between 41 and 30 and rank cards have been dispatched to all the eligible candidates.
