CHANDIGARH: Haryana Power Minister Venod Sharma has served a legal notice on Star News and Tehelka for allegedly tarnishing his image in the Jessica Lal murder case by carrying out and telecasting a "sting operation.'' Sources close to Mr. Sharma said that the "sting operation'' which had tried to "prove'' that some "witnesses'' in the sensational murder case had been "induced to change their statements in the trial court'' was "concocted and manipulated'' to tarnish the Minister's image. The notice further said that the programme telecast by the channel had conveyed a false impression that Mr. Sharma had been "paying money to the late Karan Rajput to win him over and to resile from his true testimony''. This had unleashed a "barrage of adverse publicity" in the print and electronic media. This had been done "intentionally'' to create an impression that Mr. Sharma had "conducted himself in a most illegal and unethical manner'' which was not only "defamatory'' but also a "vilification.''
