Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Education and Information Technology Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan held videoconferences with the officials of the outlying regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam on Wednesday. The Chief Minister told newsmen that the administration was keen to provide speedy attention to the grievances of the people and ensure that developmental schemes were implemented fast. Directorate of Information Technology is scheduled to operate the facility. Secretary to IT Department D.C. Sahoo and K. Prakash, Director of the Department, were among those who briefed the Chief Minister on the highlights of the innovative facility. Chief Secretary Pradip Mehra, the Secretary to Education B.V. Selvaraj and host of officials were also present. As a mark of launching of the facility, the Chief Minister elicited information from the officials of various departments who were present in the conference hall at the District Collectorate in Karaikal. Ilango, a revenue official, told the Chief Minister that about 60 per cent of the total houses meant for tsunami hit people were completed in the region. Even when asking the officials to concentrate intensively on raising the structures in the tsunami ravaged pockets in Karaikal, the Chief Minister also acquainted himself with the other developmental activities by raising queries to the officials. The Chief Minister saidthat Rs. 14 crore drinking water supply project (replacement of the pipelines) and Rs. 95 crore underground drainage scheme would be implemented soon in Karaikal town. Karaikal had been sanctioned Rs. 270 crore during the current fiscal (2006-2007) for its development. Education Minister enlisted details from the officials of Education Department in Karaikal. He was told that there were certain hiccups the construction of buildings for a Government school in Neduncadu. The site, where the school was situated fell, within the statutory limits of a temple and hence a Centrally sponsored statutory authority was raising objection to excavation works, an official told Mr. Shahjahan. Local Administration Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, who was in Yanam, conversed with the Chief Minister. He told Mr. Rangasamy that ongoing "brahmotsavam" festival at Sri Venkateswara Temple in Yanam was attracting milling crowds during last 10 days. Mr. Rao also told the Chief Minister that all works relating to restoration of stable river bunds in the flood hit pockets in Yanam had been completed. The Regional Administrator of Mahe furnished details about various developmental activities in the region.
