Resolution seeks ouster of Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar

PANAJI: Four non-Congress Ministers in the Congress-led Alliance Government in Goa on Wednesday announced their plan to lodge a common protest with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against a Pradesh Congress Committee resolution on Tuesday seeking the ouster of Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar. The four, who decided to stand by Mr. Dhavalikar (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), accused of anti-Congress activities, told presspersons on Wednesday that they would urge the top Congress leaders to "discipline" the State Congress. Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred de Souza and Micky Pacheco (both of the Nationalist Congress Party) along with Mr. Dhavalikar took strong exception to the resolution. Independent MLA and Minister for Water Resources Filipe Neri Rodrigues conveyed his solidarity with the group.

Mr. de Souza said they would bring to the notice of the Congress high command that with a little over eight months for the next Assembly election the intention of the coalition parties should be to remain united to ensure that the BJP did not return to power. They had conveyed their views to the Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane.

Mr. Dhavalikar said the charges against him were "baseless." PCC general secretary Vishnu Wagh said a six-member delegation led by president Ravi Naik would on Thursday convey the State unit's resolution to the high command.
