HYDERABAD: Hyderabad bagged the Rajaram Trophy for overall championship and also the women's championship for the Governor's Cup in the Chief Minister's State-level sports meet (under-19) which concluded here on Wednesday. The men's championship trophy for the Chief Minster's Trophy was bagged by Visakhapatnam. Chief Minister Dr.Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who gave away the prizes, assured the sporting fraternity that every step would be taken to ensure basic infrastructure would be in place in rural areas to tap and groom talented sportspersons. J.R. Anand, Principal Secretary to Government (YA&T), informed the athletes that the certificates in this Cup would hold value for admission to professional institutions in the future unlike in the past when the meet was reduced to a mere festival. "The Government will soon issue relevant orders in this regard," he said. Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao appealed to the Chief Minister to increase the budgetary allocation for sports in view of the tremendous talent available in the State to facilitate more medallists in international events.
