NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Wednesday accused the Delhi Government and the Congress-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi of complete failure to discharge their Constitutional responsibility and prevent the outbreak of dengue in the Capital. In a statement, the former Union Minister charged that both the Delhi Government and the MCD had failed to take preventive measures to tackle the menace of the mosquito population and this had led to the sudden increase in dengue cases.
No sanitation
He said the authorities had failed to ensure sanitation and proper hygienic conditions and this has led to the crisis due to which 12 people have lost their lives and hundreds are admitted in various city hospitals. Mr. Goel demanded that the Union Government step in and take stock of the situation. "If necessary, it should call an all-party meeting on the issue so that a common programme is chalked out to deal with the alarming situation." Mr. Goel said the outbreak of dengue was another example of how the Congress-led MCD had failed to provide basic amenities to the residents of the Capital and how its political and administrative wings had become defunct. He said the authorities should immediately seek the help of voluntary health workers and ask them to fan out across the city to create awareness among the people about preventive measures.
