Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI:
President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam gave away the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management for 2005 to renowned cardiologist Naresh Trehan at Rashtrapati Bhavan here recently.
The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, a citation and a plaque, is in recognition of Dr. Trehan's enormous contribution to the cause of cardiac care.
In his award acceptance speech, the noted cardiologist said he felt greatly honoured especially because of his great admiration for the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who had blessed him when he had gone to see him with his father at the age of six or seven.
