  • Mr. Hooda announces plans to set up an Industrial Model Town at Yamunanagar
  • `The Government has decided to set up private universities in the State'

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said on Wednesday that the Sikh community has its distinct identity in the society.

Paying rich tributes to Guru Arjun Dev at a function organised to mark his 400th martyrdom day in Yamunanagar, Mr. Hooda said Sikh history was full of sacrifices and this community was known for rendering selfless service to society.

He added that the Sikh gurus had, while taking along great personalities of all religions, fought against injustice and exploitation. He said it was high time we preserved the values for which the great Guru had fought and sacrificed his life.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hooda announced plans to set up an Industrial Model Town at Yamunanagar. He was speaking after inaugurating Rajan Hospital.

Later talking to newsmen Mr. Hooda said the Government had made it mandatory for private universities to be set up in the State to reserve 25 per cent seats for students hailing from Haryana out of which 10 per cent would be reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Castes.

Also, five per cent of these seats would be granted full fee exemption to benefit poor students. He said the Government had decided to set up private universities in the State to strengthen the education system and provide quality education to the students as no society could progress without education.

He claimed that equal thrust was being laid on promotion of industries as well as agriculture in the State.

Effective steps had been taken to provide adequate power to the agriculture sector.

    Power

Both agriculture and industrial sectors had been provided power even by purchasing at a high rate of Rs.8 per unit.

Efforts were on to generate 5,000 MW of additional power in the State during next three years.
